On Saturday, June 23, 2018, WARA held its annual cookout and a 4-hour operation in the ARRL Field Day.  The event took place at the Sunset Shelter, Prospect Hill Park, Waltham (near the repeater site).

The Boston Amateur Radio Club is supporting the annual Boston Brain Tumor Ride on Sunday May 20. They have requested the use of the Waltham 146.640 MHz repeater as a primary repeater for the southern section of this ride. The repeater will be used from 7:00 am to around 1:00 pm.

The primary point of contact information during the event is Jim Bradley, KB1JKJ.

Rhoda Morris, N1CSI, invited Waltham repeater friends of her late husband, Jim Morris, K1UGM, to a celebration of Jim’s life.  It was held at the Americal Civic Center in Wakefield, MA, on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

For our April club meeting, Harold Chase WA1VVH will give a presentation about the HCJB “Voice of the Andes” Shortwave Station. He worked on multiple projects there over a period of several years, starting in 1989. He will cover the technical details of the station, as well as some more general and historical information. All are welcome.

The Boston Marathon will once again be using our UHF (449.075) and VHF (146.64) repeaters during the event on April 16th. We ask that Hams please refrain from using the repeaters during this time.

Volunteers wanted for upcoming International Radio Science meeting. Amateurs are needed to staff a booth at the conference to answer questions by attendees on how to get involved in Amateur radio. The Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association, CAARA, will be holding a one day study course for those interested in earning the FCC Technician class amateur radio license. This course will be held at the Lanesville Community Center on 8 Vulcan Street in Gloucester, MA on Saturday, April 21st, 2018, from 8:00 AM and going until 4:30 PM. Exams will begin at the end of class.

There is a $20.00 fee for course materials, snacks and the FCC Test Fee. You must sign up beforehand by e-mailing CAARA at techinaday@caara.net.
